Legend says it’s protected by the dragon that lives in The Secret Room on the Adventure Trail…see if you can find her!

Wheel chairs and strollers are not available for rent, although The Gardens are stroller/handicap accessible. Benches are located throughout the Gardens.

The Gardens are open rain or shine. Refunds or rain checks on admission ticket purchases are not granted for weather related reasons. In the event of extreme weather including snow or a bad storm The Gardens may close. Please call 704-825-4490 prior to your visit.

Q: Can I bring food or drinks in The Gardens?

Outside food and alcohol are not allowed on Daniel Stowe Conservancy Property.

Q: Do you have a restaurant on site?

No; however, we have beverages, wine and snacks in The Trailhead Store and Big Leaf Café. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis on the terrace or at picnic tables. The Gardens occasionally hosts food trucks for special events, but please inquire for specific dates and availability.

Q: Can I bring art supplies and/or a camera?

We encourage you to find your creativity in nature! We welcome you to bring art supplies that will not deface garden surfaces (no paint drips on the bricks, please!) or block the enjoyment of our spaces for others. For those wanting to take photographs, we ask that they be for your own enjoyment and not for monetary gain. Visitors and members are welcome to take snapshot photographs of plants, individuals and subjects that capture the events of your visit. Daniel Stowe Conservancy defines a snapshot as an informal photograph that is shot spontaneously and quickly without artistic intent. You may share your photos of The Gardens on social media outlets.

For those wanting to take portraits or commercial photography, please see our Photography Policy for more information on booking those sessions.

No entry fee is required to access The Trailhead Store, The Farmhouse Garden Center or the eight+ miles of hiking trails on Stowe property. Gates for the property will close following The Trailhead Store schedule. If you are accessing the trails, please plan your time accordingly.

The Adventure Trail at Daniel Stowe Conservancy is an extension of the Kimbrell Family Lost Hollow Children’s Garden. It is a 0.4-mile shaded forest trail that begins in the Lost Hollow Children’s Garden and ends at the new Prairie Castle Playground (opening Saturday, August 30). Along the trail, you’ll find five outdoor “rooms” with a different nature exploration theme:

  • The Ramble Rocks Room: The perfect place for thrill-seeking adventurers to jump + climb

  • The Creekside Room: Wade through cool, babbling waters and make a splash with every step
  • The Woodwind Room: Where young performers create the songs of the forest
  • The Habitat Room: Peek into the hidden homes of woodland creatures and play hide-and-seek with nature
  • The Secret Room: You’ll have to find this one yourself…you’ll also find the dragon that protects Lost Hollow!

The Adventure Trail is located in The Gardens and as such requires admission or membership to access. Visitors to The Gardens can access the Prairie Castle Playground during open Garden hours, which you can view here.

Daniel Stowe Conservancy is closed for the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Dogs are not permitted in The Gardens at Stowe. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trails and paths outside of The Gardens, at The Trailhead store porch, The Farmhouse Garden Center porch, and may be unleashed in the Dog Park.

Trained service animals which perform life functions for those with disabilities are permitted to enter The Gardens at Stowe, in compliance with ADA regulations. Service animals are not granted access to the Butterfly Bungalow exhibit for the safety of the butterflies.

For those wanting to take portraits or commercial photography, please see our Photography Policy for more information on booking those sessions.
