Happy National Volunteer Week! This week offers a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the dedicated individuals who give their time and energy to causes that matter—and at Daniel Stowe Conservancy, our volunteers are truly the heart of everything we do. From nurturing native habitats to educating visitors about our region’s rich biodiversity, their dedication helps us grow and thrive. As we thank our volunteers this week, we’re taking a moment to shine a light on the inspiring stories, hard work and lasting impact our volunteers bring to Stowe and the broader community.
“The impact of our volunteers is visible on a daily basis,” says Volunteer Coordinator Ceci Kammire, “Whether they’re weeding in the gardens, leading docent tours, welcoming visitors or helping at special events. Their work brings our mission to life and helps create a place where people truly feel connected.”

Persimmon Trail Plant Phenology – Tuesdays: 10-11am @ Persimmon Trail
Join volunteer leaders as they monitor and document lifecycle stages in various plants along the Persimmon Trail for this community science program. Volunteers will assist in monitoring and documenting the diverse plant life that calls this area home, contributing valuable data that supports conservation efforts and deepens our understanding of seasonal changes in native species. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or just beginning to explore the world of botany, this hands-on opportunity is a great way to learn more about local ecosystems while playing an active role in preserving them. No prior experience is necessary—just a love of nature and a willingness to explore!

Bluebird Phenology – Tuesdays 9-10 a.m. @ Persimmon Trail
Become a vital part of wildlife conservation at Daniel Stowe Conservancy by joining our volunteer Bluebird Monitor Team. This dedicated group of volunteers plays an important role in tracking the nesting and hatching activity of Eastern Bluebirds across approximately 50 nestboxes located throughout the property. As a Bluebird Monitor, you’ll help record key data and contribute to broader efforts supporting this native species. It’s a rewarding way to connect with nature, learn more about bird behavior and help protect an important part of our region’s biodiversity. Training is provided, and all experience levels are welcome!
Garden Maintenance – Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 12-3 p.m. @ the Garden Pavilion
Join our Horticulture Team and have fun with them outside as they work hard to prepare various sections of The Gardens at Stowe for another beautiful season of growth and blooms this spring! Volunteers work alongside experienced staff to plant, weed, mulch and maintain a wide variety of native and ornamental plantings that support local pollinators and wildlife. It’s a great way to learn more about sustainable gardening practices, connect with fellow nature enthusiasts and make a visible difference in the landscape. Whether you’re an avid gardener or just curious to learn more, there’s always a place for you in the garden. Come grow with us!

Invasive Species Removal – Mondays 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. @ the Garden Pavilion
Join our staff in an ongoing effort to restore the health of our local ecosystems by removing invasive plant species from various wooded areas across the property. This effort focuses on the removal of invasive plant species that threaten the balance and biodiversity of the natural environment. By working together in various wooded areas across the property, we can help native plants thrive, support local wildlife and ensure the long-term sustainability of these natural spaces. Whether you’re an experienced conservationist or simply someone who enjoys being outdoors, your participation makes a valuable difference in preserving the beauty and ecological integrity of our community.
Volunteer Greeters – Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. @ the Garden Pavilion
As Stowe enters its vibrant and bustling busy season, we are excited to welcome enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to join our team as Volunteer Greeters on weekends. This is a wonderful opportunity to play a key role in creating a warm, inviting atmosphere for all who visit the Garden Pavilion. As a Volunteer Greeter, you’ll be the first friendly face our guests encounter, offering a cheerful welcome, answering basic questions and helping set the tone for a positive and memorable experience.

Butterfly Bungalow – Officially opening Memorial Day Weekend + Volunteer Training May 17 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Whether you are a seasoned Butterfly Bungalow volunteer or completely new, we kindly ask that all volunteers interested in working in the Bungalow this year please attend the volunteer training on May 17, as important new species-specific information will be covered. The Butterfly Bungalow officially opens on Memorial Day Weekend on May 23! There will be various volunteer positions and time slots available daily while the Bungalow is open.
Mailings and Events – Look out for opportunities throughout the year
Our Membership Manager needs volunteers to assist with mailings and other administrative duties. Large, exciting events such as Holidays at the Garden or our Race Series frequently require volunteer assistance for parking, greeting guests and providing tours. Check your email for future opportunities to help out.
